Mozilla’s flagship Firefox browser has earned the dubious title of the most vulnerable software program running on the Windows platform.
According to application whitelisting vendor Bit9, Firefox topped the list of 12 widely deployed desktop applications that suffered through critical security vulnerabilities in 2008. These flaws exposed millions of Windows users to remote code execution attacks.
The other applications on the list are all well-known and range from browsers to media players, to VOIP chat and anti-virus software programs. Here’s Bit9’s dirty dozen:

Microsoft Abandons Internet Explorer 8 Development for Firefox 3
Steve Ballmer announced early Monday that Microsoft would be halting development on Internet Explorer 8 and focusing the company’s efforts on Firefox 3.
“I’m going to be downloading it myself, and I’ve told all our employees to download Firefox 3 on Tuesday and instructed our programming teams to start working on making the open source browser better rather than stumble around with Internet Explorer 8,” said Ballmer. “I mean, why bother? Firefox 3 has the ‘AwesomeBar,’ you can’t seriously expect to compete with that, can you?”

Windows Market share below 90%
Over November 2008 the market share of Windows amongst Internet users has dropped below 90% according to Net Applications. This means that 10% of computer users can't use IE at all. Most of these users are Mac users, that tend to be financially somewhat better off, which makes this all the more reason for webmaster to make their websites standards compliant and not lock these users out. Losing 10% of your income due to poor website design can mean the end of your business in these difficult times.

TECH SOURCE FROM BOHOL: Songbird Rocks!
I'm not that picky when it comes to desktop audio player. Typically, I just use whatever audio player that comes with my Linux distro. As long as it plays all of my audio files (with the right plugins of course), I'm good. Until most recently, when I've tried those iTunes replacements that I wrote about a while ago, I've discovered Songbird, and it quickly became my favorite audio player.

Firefox in your country survey results
We launched the pilot Firefox in your country survey last September and received 9,506 responses, which is amazing given the length of the survey (20 questions). Since this is the first time we ran the survey, we wanted to do a test run first and targeted 7 countries: Brazil, India, Germany, Poland, Indonesia, Spain, and Australia. However, answers came in from all over the world! Given the enthusiasm, we’re definitely planning to extend the survey to more countries.
