Now, a lot of people publish lists of 'best' extensions. It's quick and easy to make these lists. One difference between my list and some of those "99 Must Have, Best Firefox Extensions!" is that is the real list of the extensions that I use every day. These don't just sound good, they work well. These are the extensions that have transformed Firefox for me from just a mere Web browser to an essential part of my electronic office.

Google's Toolbar and Foxmarks. Not my choice of most essential.
If I had to pick only two extensions it would be NoScript and PrefBar.

For me Foxmarks is one of my most valued addons, I find it immensely useful to be able to have my bookmarks available on all the computers that I use (including one dual boot system).
If I could only choose two, my next one would probably be Flashblock, I find Flash to be the most abused technology and used for the most annoying ads. (I don't mind ads in general, but I don't want them to interfere with my browsing).
But then everyone is different and Firefox lets everyone make their own choices. Whenever you install Firefox for a friend, don't just blindly install *your* favorite addons, but try to find out what would be useful for them by asking about their browsing habits. The more personalized it is to them (not you) the greater the chance that they will continue to use Firefox.
