Macworld points out a handy Firefox tabbing keyboard shortcut: Hit Alt+Enter (Opt+Enter for Mac users) to open a URL you've typed into the address bar in a new tab. This way, instead of hitting Ctrl+T to open a new tab, then the address, then Enter, you can skip one step. For more useful Firefox keyboard shortcuts, see our mouse-less Firefox feature.

So one has to hit Ctrl-L to get the focus on the Location Bar, then enter the web address and then hit Alt-Enter.
But the alternative I always use is:
Ctrl-T (opens a new tab, with the focus already on the location bar), then type in the web address and hit Enter.
Which can even be argued to be shorter as it requires only a normal Enter instead of an Alt-Enter.
However the Alt-Enter combination can save you a keystroke in the Search Bar:
Hit Ctrl-K to get focus on the search bar, enter your search terms and hit Alt-Enter to get the results in a new tab.
The alternative would be: Ctrl-T, Ctrl-K, enter search terms, Enter. Which requires one more key combination.
