Metaphoric Mozilla Tree

http://musingt.com

I’m sure you all remember Mitchell’s opening session at the Summit about the “Mozilla Tree”: a metaphoric tree representing the complex nature of Mozilla. A great analogy that she has been working on for a long time and will continue to elaborate on through her blog. So I won’t get into the details of what it all means, but instead shed some light on the design and creative development behind it.

Mozilla reacts to rivals with plans to beef up Firefox 3.1

http://www.computerworld.com

Mozilla Corp. will try to squeeze more into Firefox 3.1, in part as a reaction to rival browsers from Microsoft and Google, the company's chief engineer said today.

"Looking at where we are and the competitive browser landscape, we felt we would be doing a better job if we had another four to five weeks," said Mike Shaver, Mozilla's interim vice president of engineering.

IdentFavIcon :: Firefox Add-ons

https://addons.mozilla.org

IdentFavIcon is based on the idea of Don Park called identicon to generate visually pleasing and easily recognizable icons from identifiers, such as IP addresses. This extension replaces the default favicon for web pages without one with a visually pleasing identicon, which is unique for each domain. The extension uses the CRC-32 code of the web page's domain name to seed the identicon renderer.

You must have Firebug installed and the "Net" panel enabled to use this extension.
You must also download a PHP library from http://www.firephp.org/

The vision for SUMO – Part 5: Localizatation

http://blog.mozilla.com

Approximately half of our users are running an English (US, British, or other) version of Firefox. This is why localization is such a critical part of Mozilla, because it enables us to reach that other (significant!) half. Localizing SUMO is not just about translating English articles to another language — it’s about making the Firefox support experience truly local, while also participating in the mission to further refine the quality of our support.

Two betas in the road to Firefox 3.1

http://mozillalinks.org

In a post to the Firefox planning newsgroup, Mozilla Corp’s Mike Shaver, announced that there will be at least two betas for Shiretoko, Firefox 3.1 code name.
