John Lilly (CEO Mozilla) recently gave a talk at Stanford about Mozilla’s structure and decision-making processes. “[I]t’s about how Mozilla is organized, and how we push decision-making to the edges of any organization we have — it’s really an organization design and behavior talk.” The presentation is an interesting look into the thinking and blended system of chaos and order behind Mozilla. Berners-Lee announces the WWW Foundation
The man who invented the web about 20 years ago, Tim Berners-Lee, announced yesterday the World Wide Web Foundation, a non-profit with the mission of advancing one free and open web, expanding its capabilities and robustness, and extending its benefits to all people on the planet.
With an initial $5 million funding over the next 5 years provided by the Knight Foundation (a journalism and community empowerment non-profit), the W3F is headed by Steve Bratt and is currently in the planning phase with early 2009 as the targeted launch time frame.

HP and Mozilla Create Virtual Browser to Secure Corporate Desktops
Hewlett-Packard, Mozilla and Symantec present a virtual browser called the HP Firefox Virtual Browser, which will be first featured on a new HP desktop called the HP Compaq dc7900. The HP Firefox Virtual Browser creates a secure virtualization layer that captures malware and viruses and lets the user purge the malware from the desktop. HP will offer the HP Firefox Virtual Browser in all its business desktops by year's end.

Mozilla Extends Lucrative Deal With Google For 3 Years
Mozilla has extended its search deal with Google for another three years. In return for setting Google as the default search engine on Firefox, Google pays Mozilla a substantial sum - in 2006 the total amounted to around $57 million, or 85% of the company’s total revenue. The deal was originally going to expire in 2006, but was later extended to 2008 and will now run through 2011.
