As an early holiday-season gift, here is a video and working version of an experiment in making Ubiquity usable with only the mouse. It draws heavy inspiration from our work on Firefox Mobile, with sliding, light-weight controls accessible to the side of the page.

Design Session: Where do Firefox Mobile Add-Ons Go?
Madhava Enros and I spent 45 minutes the other day thinking about where add-ons live in a web browser that has nothing but content showing 90% of the time.
Thoughts, comments, and mockups welcome! The decisions made now effect the space in which the diverse life-blood of the browser-enhancement community lives. So speak up :)

How to search Thunderbird emails with Spotlight on a MacBook
After upgrading from OSX10.4 -> OSX10.5, I was surprised to discover that Spotlight was no longer indexing Thunderbird emails.
I went back and rechecked all the steps in my earlier blog post, thinking maybe some files were lost in the upgrade, but all appeared ok. Using “/usr/bin/mdimport -L" I verified that the importer was present and still running. I even tried

Firefox with multitouch support for Mac OS X
Mozilla’s Edward Lee has released an experimental build of Firefox 3.1 pre-Beta 2 that adds support for multitouch gestures on the latest MacBook’s multitouch trackpads.
Edward warns that this is an experimental build and there has been no word on whether this will make it for Firefox 3.1 (it’s definitely not a blocker but could get in if it is dimmed safe enough and there will be time for proper QA).
You can get the experimental Firefox 3.1 with Mac OS X gestures support (in case it is not obvious, Mac OS X only) from Mozilla try build servers.

Ubiquity for Firefox Video [Vimeo]
A video introducing Ubiquity for Firefox, an experiment in connecting the Web with language.
Ubiquity's goals are to:
Empower users to control the web browser with language-based instructions. (With search, users type what they want to find. With Ubiquity, they type what they want to do.)
Enable on-demand, user-generated mashups with existing open Web APIs. (In other words, allowing everyone (not just Web developers) to remix the Web so it fits their needs, no matter what page they are on, or what they are doing.)
