The new Thundertab has (partially) landed in the nightly builds of Thunderbird. You’ll need to get Lightning installed to see all this and it’s not too pretty yet, but we’re making lots of progress.
But there’s no time to lose! We’re already talking about how to handle tab session restore to keep all your opened mail tabs around for future sessions.
I’ve put up a partial mockup already, but it’s still early. As always please leave comments below!

ToneQuilla provides a new filter action to Thunderbird and Seamonkey, to play a custom sound (maybe could be called a biff tone?) as a result of a mail filter. This makes it possible to have different sounds to notify you when emails arrive with different characteristics. ToneQuilla is available here on Mozilla’s add-ons website.

Thunderbird extension that allows the display of all available about: windows in Thunderbird. Shredder Alpha 3 and above is required though. It is called ViewAbout and can be downloaded from Mozilla Add-ons.Enables access to various about: dialogs from the View menu.
Every available about: dialog can be viewed - about:buildconfig, about:config, about:crashes, about:credits, about:license, about:mozilla, about:neterror (seemingly useless) and about:plugins.
These windows can be closed using Ctrl(or cmd)-w.

One week after the release of Firefox 2.0.0.18 comes the security update for Thunderbird 2. It fixes 7 bugs, none of them high or critical.

Mozilla Messaging today announced the beta launch of the SpreadThunderbird.com web site. Spread Thunderbird is the volunteer-run Mozilla Thunderbird advocacy site where community marketing activities are organized to raise awareness and to promote the adoption of Thunderbird. The Spread Thunderbird site is powered by the open source Drupal web site software. Community members may submit ideas and join in the effort by visiting http://www.spreadthunderbird.com.

For a few months Thunderbird crashes on Mac were reporting to our crash-stats server, but unfortunately weren’t being processed correctly.
Just before Christmas, Ted checked in a change to mozilla-1.9.1 to allow crash symbols to be generated via drawf-2 rather than the old method. Philippe then fixed up our Thunderbird tinderboxes. As a result, this work has fixed our crash-stats reporting and we are now getting valid reports at our crash-stats server :-)

You can use Thunderbird's Import Wizard to migrate your mail from Outlook, Outlook Express, Mozilla, Netscape, or Eudora. Otherwise, you can use a manual procedure to migrate your mail. Thunderbird uses a standard mail format that's used by many other mail clients, so migrating mail either manually or with the Import Wizard is not complicated.
