Minister of Government Administration and Reform Heidi Grande Roeys said she was granting 2 million kroner ($285,000) to the national center for free software to adapt and promote OpenOffice for such government use as public reports, accounting and archives.
In April 2006, the Norwegian government announced a long term program to step up use of open-source software to reduce its dependency on computer giants like Microsoft.

NASA uses Mozilla's Bugzilla for Space Shuttle Endeavour
NASA's new bug tracking system PRACA was written using open-source Bugzilla tools that will save NASA considerable amounts of time and money. By using open-source Bugzilla tools, technicians will be able to make changes to either PRACA or IFI more or less on the fly, rather than having to submit any proposed changes to the publishers of proprietary software, steps that often took weeks to achieve.

Kiss Firefox EULA goodbye
When Mozilla requested Ubuntu to show Firefox’s End User License Agreement on Firefox first start, the Ubuntu and other free software advocacy communities cried foul, because for some reason, stating the obvious (that Mozilla is not liable for whatever happens to your computer and that the software is free) is not in tune with the open source spirit.
Mozilla agreed to remove the EULA prompt, and Ubuntu 8.10 shipped without it. Now Firefox users get an information bar on first launch. Which links to a new internal address (about:rights) where users are told about their rights.
