Yesterday, I got back home from Barcelona where I have attended EU MozCamp 2008 conference. I spent very nice and inspirational weekend with smart people, talking about Mozilla, Firefox and of course, Firebug. All perfectly organized, no rock slides this time ;-)

I had also an opportunity to lead a session about Firebug and Chromebug on Sunday. See my slides if you are interested, however I don't know how much useful they are without me talking ;-)

FireUnit - the early years

Enter FireUnit! An extension for Firebug that aims to be able to test Firebug itself, and later on, perhaps be a useful framework for developing unittests for the web. It’s still very early on, but there’s a core emerging.

Installing FireUnit is currently a bit of a manual affair. Download the source code from the github repository and extract the downloaded zip or tar file to your local filesystem.

I don't know if anyone reads The Circle Panel who doesn't also read YUIBlog, but if you missed Joe Hewitt's talk on Firebug coinciding with the Firebug 1.0 release last week, check it out as soon as possible. I thought I was using Firebug pretty thoroughly -- it had even persuaded me to abandoned my beloved Safari for the much slower Firefox on my G4 PowerBook. But I didn't know a damn thing about Firebug, I realized, after watching Joe's talk. This is a tool that, when used well, can change the way you understand your own web applications and even those in which you simply take a casual interest. When uploading you on some site (including monmonja.com) dont have a clue if your upload is progressing or not. With firebug (extension of firefox) you can monitor your upload progress.

In this article I would like to cover some of the basics of using Firebug to debug JavaScript in Firefox. If you do not have Firefox or the latest version I suggest you download , install it then get the Firebug extension. There is simply no better solution for debugging JavaScript than Firefox and Firebug at least not from what I have seen.
