Camino 2.0 Alpha 1 released

The Camino team has announced the availability of Camino 2 Alpha 1, the native Mac OS X Gecko-based based browser.
Among its major improvements is the update to the most recent Gecko 1.9 rendering engine (the same used in Firefox 3) with all the performance enhancements.
A new tab overview feature (accessible from the Window menu) displays a thumbnail of all currently opened tabs, similar to some Firefox extensions and a tab preview feature in the works for Firefox 3.1.

Shredder Alpha 3 is a preview release for the next major version of Thunderbird that is being built on top of the next generation of Mozilla's layout engine, Gecko 1.9. Shredder Alpha 3 is being made available for testing purposes only and is intended for developers and our testing community. Before downloading, please read the release notes for more information about this release including known issues.

Fennec Alpha 1 Release Notes

This first alpha release is available for the OS2008 ("Maemo") software platforms that runs on the Nokia N810 Internet Tablets. If you're viewing this on an N810, install Fennec.

Don't have an N810? Don't worry, you can still experiment with Fennec, provide feedback, write add-ons, and get involved by installing a version of Fennec for your desktop PC (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux).

The idea behind releasing the package for PCs is to give people who don't have a Nokia Internet Tablet the ability to localize, experiment and build add-ons. Note: The desktop version of Fennec is not a supported product.

Thunderbird 3 Alpha 3 available now

Mozilla Messaging has released the third alpha of upcoming Thunderbird 3 (code named Shredder). Originally planned as a beta, the Thunderbird team reversed its decision as there’s still plenty of work to be done including the most expected integration with the Lightning extension to provide calendaring features.
This alpha brings a few interesting improvements like the inclusion of some common controls (like reply forward and delete) to the message preview pane, and the option to add a contact to the address book by starring it.

The alpha build of Mobile Firefox (codenamed Fennec) has been available for testing by brave Nokia N810 users for some time now, but Mozilla developer Brad Lassey just got it up and running on a Windows Mobile device, and shares a couple of screenshots. Obviously there's quite a bit of work to be done, but it's an exciting preview at what getting Firefox in your pocket will look like in the near future. [via]

Firefox 3.1 gets cool web page transformations support

Today’s Shiretoko (Firefox 3.1 codename) nightly introduces support for simple web elements transformations as CSS extensions originally proposed and implemented by the WebKit project.

The extensions include move, rotate, skew, scale and matrix operations for almost every web page element except plugins and popup menus among others. In the example below, Google’s main page and Wikipedia English home page have been embedded in transformed internal frames: moved, rotated and skewed. I also added some experimental transparency in the mix for a better effect.

The first developer milestone of the next release of Firefox - code named Shiretoko Alpha 1 - is now available for download. Shiretoko is built on pre-release version of the Gecko 1.9.1 platform, which forms the core of rich internet applications such as Firefox. Please note that this release is intended for developers and testers only.Anyone interested in Shiretoko should read the release notes, as well as the "Firefox 3.1 For Developers" article on the Mozilla Developer Center before downloading.

It seems everything went better than expected in today’s Gran Paradiso Test Day and Mozilla decided to release Alpha 4 today. It wasn’t expected until next week.

Among the most notable improvement in this release is the first iteration of FUEL (Firefox User Extension Library), a JavaScript library designed to ease extension development. This should allow and even faster growth of the Firefox extensions library which already counts thousands.

It also features the new Page Info dialog released a few weeks ago. It has kept improving with easier wording specially in the security and general pages, so here are some updated screen shots.

Mac users will be glad to know that Firefox now supports Growl, the popular global notifications system. Downloads completion notifications will be served through it if detected in the computer. If you just can’t wait, Growl support is already available as an extension.

Work has started for per site preferences, as Myk Melez has released the third version (0.3) of Content Preferences, currently available at Mozilla Add-ons sandbox. The rework of the password manager has also started and it is being ported from C language to JavaScript for stronger security and code simplicity.

Finally, support for offline web applications support is slowly getting its pieces in place. Better Mac OS X Cocoa support is also included.

Places, the integrated history and bookmarks interface didn’t make it for this release. Neither did enabling Breakpad, the new open source crash reporting tool, by default, however the server application to receive the reports is setup and Alpha 4 can submit reports to mozilla.com and Mac OS X builds now have Breakpad as well.
