If you are using a Firefox nightly to browse the web, you (better) know you are walking on a minefield where a just landed patch can explode at any time taking some or all of your bookmarks, cookies or saved passwords with it. So, builds from the Firefox trunk (development code repository) are properly called Minefield. Its logo, a lit dynamite stick stuck into the globe, makes things even clearer.

Firefox and Internet Explorer only: The Surf Canyon browser extension embeds extra search results at Google, Yahoo, and MSN. With Surf Canyon installed, search the web with your favorite engine as usual. A bull's-eye icon will appear next to results—click it to expand another level of links related to the single result. My test for a "lifehacker" Google search was promising: Surf Canyon included links to the official Lifehacker book, Upgrade Your Life, and a life hacks site search engine at Google Coop. When Firefox's bookmarks are a scattered mess of links, you can restore order instantaneously by alphabetizing them. Simply reordering the column in the Bookmarks Manager won't do it though—you've got to invoke the context menu. Macworld explains: read more »

Over the last six or seven months, I've come across literally hundreds of blog posts and a decent number of full-length articles explaining how Firefox users can make all of their extensions "compatible" or "work" with Firefox 3 betas by making a very simple change to one of Firefox's hidden preferences.

This idea is not true. You can not make your extensions compatible by changing a Firefox preference.
